At a Natural Balance Wellness Center, we know that the science behind our methods may seem quite complicated. The following information includes brief histories and explanations related to the muscle testing techniques utilized by Dr. Stebbins and his associates at A Natural Balance Wellness Center. Let this information help you begin your research into improving your health.

Stress on the Body.
Stress causes or exacerbates most health related conditions. According to The American Medical Association, stress is the cause of nearly 85 percent of all human illness and disease. Every week, 95 million Americans suffer some kind of stress-related symptom for which they take medication.
Reducing the stress reaction can significantly decrease symptoms of many conditions. This is called Neurological Stress Reduction Therapy (NSRT). It provides a unique approach to wellness that is based on science.
The brain creates associations between stressful events and substances, which are often inappropriate and subsequently lead to a host of chronic or acute conditions.
Allergies are inappropriate reactions by the body that occur in response to otherwise harmless substances. This is actually initiated via our energy fields and nervous system.
These reactions can be mitigated by introducing a positive stimulus in conjunction with the specific stress inducing substance, thereby reducing or eliminating the reaction.
Stress is the key word. Our methodology measures stress on the Autonomic Nervous System. After identifying substances that cause the stress, we couple these stressors with a positive stimulus triggered by light therapy stimulation of nerve bundles. This acts as a form of BioFeedback that releases endorphins. Endorphins are calming to the nervous system. This results in breaking the previous negative association and replacing it with a neutral association. The net result is the retraining of the Autonomic nervous system to no longer respond in a stressful manner during real world substance exposure.
Why is that so important? Because the stress response initiates a cascade of events that result in sneezing, sniffling, gas, diarrhea, itching, wheezing and and a variety of other inflammatory reactions. These are all symptomatic expressions of the body's reaction to substances it believes are harmful.
All of these symptoms start as an Autonomic Nervous System mediated response. NSRT (aka Meridian Based Bio-Feedback) is very effective at alleviating or at least minmizing the response that leads to these symptoms.
Our devices and techniques are not meant to diagnose or treat any specific disease. However, reducing autonomic nervous system mediated responses can have wide reaching benefits on a number of conditions.

What is an allergy?
The term `allergy’ derives from the Greek word allos (altered) and ergion (reactivity). In essence, an allergy is an altered response by the body when exposed to a substance. It is a condition of abnormal sensitivity to one or more substances that are normally harmless. Western doctors view allergies as reactions involving histamine and immunoglobulins. Reactions not involving those substances are considered to simply be sensitivities.
However, we view allergies as any abnormal response. Semantics aside, when people react negatively to a substance which should not cause a reaction normally, it is abberant. Regardless of the paradigm we use, when people react they suffer and the degree of suffering has nothing to do with which definition we use.
When most people think of allergies they think of runny nose and itchy eyes – hayfever type symptoms. However, sensitivities can manifest as any symptom you can imagine including PMS, headaches, fatigue, joint pain, irritable bowel, insomnia, gastric reflux and much more.
The western medicine view of allergies places blame on an abnormally functioning immune system. That is, an immune system which over-reacts to a substance (allergen). However, our view places the blame on the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS (brain) is responsible for controlling hundreds of body functions every second. We believe the CNS views the allergenic substance as a threat to the body’s well-being. This creates a conflict between the body and the substance at various levels (functional, chemical, energetic and even emotional) as the body attempts to deal with the perceived threat.
The vibrational nature of a substance becomes incompatable with the body’s vibrational state. This is called `dis-resonance’ and it’s as if you have two notes being played on a piano which do not harmonize with each other. The end result is your body reacts in a negative fashion. This reaction can occur in any tissue or organ. This variable reactivity is why we can have such a wide variety of symptoms. If we can recalibrate the body to end the dis-resonant response we, in effect, stop the abnormal reaction. This does not supress the reaction, it normalizes it.
In Oriental medicine we see the body as a system of energy flows and interactions. This energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), flows through an elaborate system of energy pathways called meridians. It has been theorized that these meridians reside in the fascia (the tissue under the skin and around the organs). When the body is exposed to an allergen these energy pathways become blocked in an attempt to protect the body from damage. These blockages result in functional changes that cause a patient’s symptoms and may remain even though a person avoids further exposure. This is why some people don’t get better even after they avoid the allergen. Amazingly, it has been discovered that we can reprogram the nervous system and the meridian system to prevent further allergic reaction.

Vibrational Science.
The foundational technology behind Vibrational Science has been around since the 1950′s when Rheinhold Voll, a German physician, was using electronics to assess the health status of his patients. At one point he was demonstrating his device in front of a group of doctors whereupon he found an abnormal reading on the client he was testing.
The abnormal reading indicated a prostate problem. At that point the group took a break. During the break the client purchased a homeopathic remedy for his prostate and placed it in his pocket. Upon resuming the testing, Dr.Voll started where he left off but noticed the prostate reading had normalized.
Initially baffled, he asked the patient if he had taken anything during the break. The patient said no, but told him he had the remedy in his shirt pocket. Dr.Voll discovered that the presence of the substance in the client's energy field changed his prostate readings. Thus began his research into homeopathics and body resonances.
In the late 1970′s a German biophysicist by the name of Frtiz Popp discovered that every tissue in the body has a different frequency of vibration. Others have proven the same. Dr. Robert Becker, an orthopedic surgeon, spent 30 years researching the subtle electromagnetic aspects of living creatures. He discovered many subtle electrical aspects of cells. He was given a grant by the National Institutes of Health to prove or disprove the existance of acupuncture points. He proved the acupoints existed, had unique electrical qualities which were different than the surrounding tissue, and where in the same location on everyone he tested. Thus proving the existance of acupuncture points.
In the 1930′s, Royal Rife was the inventor of a microscope which could look into a virus without killing it. Until very recently we were unable to duplicate this. He also discovered that viruses and bacteria could be destroyed if the correct vibrational frequency was sent into them. Initially, his research attracted interest by numerous doctors. Later he was seen as a threat to the medical establishment and his equipment and lab notes were destroyed.

The biofield hypothesis: its biophysical basis and role in medicine.
Rubik B1.
Abstract
This paper provides a scientific foundation for the biofield: the complex, extremely weak electromagnetic field of the organism hypothesized to involve electromagnetic bioinformation for regulating homeodynamics. The biofield is a useful construct consistent with bioelectromagnetics and the physics of nonlinear, dynamical, nonequilibrium living systems. It offers a unifying hypothesis to explain the interaction of objects or fields with the organism, and is especially useful toward understanding the scientific basis of energy medicine, including acupuncture, biofield therapies, bioelectromagnetic therapies, and homeopathy. The rapid signal propagation of electromagnetic fields comprising the biofield as well as its holistic properties may account for the rapid, holistic effects of certain alternative and complementary medical interventions.

Toward an electromagnetic paradigm for biology and medicine.
Abstract
Work by Lund, Burr, Becker, and others leads to the inescapable conclusion that organisms tend to express quasisystemic electric changes when perturbed, and, conversely, will tend toward wellness either through endogenous repair currents or the application of equivalent external currents. We show that an all-inclusive electromagnetic field representation for living systems is fully consistent with this extensive body of work. This electrogenomic field may provide the basis for a new paradigm in biology and medicine that is radically different from the present emphasis on molecular biology and biochemistry. An electromagnetic field description also enables a more rational transformation from the genome than the present endpoint, universally stated in terms of the so-called visible characteristics. Furthermore, once the organism is described as an electromagnetic entity, this strongly suggests the reason for the efficacy of the various electromagnetic therapies, namely as the most direct means of restoring the body's impacted electromagnetic field to its normal state.

Bioelectromagnetic medicine: the role of resonance signaling.
Foletti A1, Grimaldi S, Lisi A, Ledda M, Liboff AR.
Abstract
Only recently has the critical importance of electromagnetic (EM) field interactions in biology and medicine been recognized. We review the phenomenon of resonance signaling, discussing how specific frequencies modulate cellular function to restore or maintain health. The application of EM-tuned signals represents more than merely a new tool in information medicine. It can also be viewed in the larger context of EM medicine, the all-encompassing view that elevates the EM over the biochemical. The discovery by Zhadin that ultrasmall magnetic intensities are biologically significant suggests that EM signaling is endogenous to cell regulation, and consequently that the remarkable effectiveness of EM resonance treatments reflects a fundamental aspect of biological systems. The concept that organisms contain mechanisms for generating biologically useful electric signals is not new, dating back to the nineteenth century discovery of currents of injury by Matteucci. The corresponding modern-day version is that ion cyclotron resonance magnetic field combinations help regulate biological information. The next advance in medicine will be to discern and apply those EM signaling parameters acting to promote wellness, with decreasing reliance on marginal biochemical remediation and pharmaceuticals.
